Catching – Blocking

One of the hardest things for catchers to learn is to drop to their knees and block balls in the dirt. They’ve been taught their whole life to catch with their glove and now we need them to use their glove to block with instead of catch. To make this easier for your catchers tell them “their knees go where the ball goes“ – so if the ball is up the knees goes up, if the ball is middle the knees stay middle and if the ball goes DOWN then the knees go DOWN. It’s a pretty easy way for catchers to learn a pretty difficult skill.
